I’ve always had a love hate relationship with skincare; sometimes I find it tedious to implement and other times I feel like giving myself a darn good pampering and putting into effect my eight step routine. Yes EIGHT! As I’ve gotten older, of course the feel of my skin and the tone is not quite as soft and bright as it used to be. So I have found myself looking to serums, oil cleansers, balms, toners, eye creams – you name it, it’s all happening in the bathroom and I’ve tried a fair few.
As I’ve perfected my routine these past couple of years, I have found myself adopting the double cleansing method. And yes, it is exactly as you’d expect: cleaning your face twice. It’s basically a Korean method of cleansing: first with an oil based cleanser and then with a water based cleanser. Although I actually do it the other way round but each to their own.
So here are the steps I take to achieve youthful, fresher looking skin – the heroes I now can’t live without:
STEP 1 Exfoliate with Elemis Superfood Blackcurrant Jelly Exfoliator
STEP 2 Cleanse with the Emma Hardie Moringa Light Cleansing Gel
STEP 3 Cleanse with Elemis Omega-Rich Cleansing Oil (an extra step if you went hard out the night before)
STEP 4 Double cleanse with Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm
STEP 5 Tone with Elemis Rehydrating Ginseng Toner
STEP 6 Soften skin with Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Oil
STEP 7 Target fine lines with Elemis Pro Collagen Advanced Eye Treatment
STEP 8 Moisturise with Elemis Pro Definition Day Cream (and if at night with Elemis Peptide Plumping Pillow Facial)
I try and stick to this routine daily, it’s definitely not easy especially at times when I and can barely muster the energy to remove my makeup! BUT my skin is noticeably softer, brighter and more hydrated since adopting this routine. I’m not sure I can go back to the days of wash-and-go, if you can invest the time and effort into looking after your skin then it’s definitely worth it. I’ll bet you see a difference in no time.
